Created bootable USB boot drives numerous times prior. Attempted today and it looked like it was successful, but when console was booted off drive, it got caught in a text loop

The only thing I can think is that it's related to using OsX 10.9 (Mavericks). Haven't searched yet to see if its a Terminal or Unetbootin issue.
Tried in PC with LinuxLiveUSB and worked fine.
Anybody experience this or have any ideas/ workarounds/ solutions?
