Problem installing 3.1.5 on vista

that usually indicates that your machine is waiting to be restarted before allowing certain software to be installed.

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log is over 12 mb and the last lines of code didn't seem to have info about hog 3 stuff. I'm not sure what exactly you would have me post. Could you be a little more specific?
I have restarted the pc many times throughout the process. Still getting the

sure:

technically, it's not 3PC that's failing to install - it's one of the pieces of software that gets installed alongside, so, no, you wouldn't see any reference to 3PC in your CBS.log

it is odd that your CBS.log has grown that large without being split off into archives - to identify where the latest logging session begins, search from the bottom up for "Starting TrustedInstaller initialization"

once you've found the latest session, which could easily be ~6000 lines, either post that, or read through the logged failures searching for "(F)" - the most useful information will come from the CSI sections.


also, it might be worth taking a look at FilterList.log to see if you recognize anything to be virus/malware protection that may be causing the (F)'s when servicing these components.

It seems even more strange to me that the last quarter of my thousands of lines of text in the CBS log regards actions between 5 and 6pm on the 6th of March 2010 and then nothing there after. I could not find Starting TrustedInstaller initialization anywhere and currently I can't even find my FilterList.log.
I'm not too savvy on the ol pc. Bummer

your CBS log being empty sounds like the 3PC installer is getting caught somewhere between preparing to install this additional software and actually installing this additional software.


just to rule it out, try installing the VC Runtime, manually from:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

you won't be given any indication of success, but you'll know right away if there's an error.


after that's been ruled out, determine why the 3PC installer is failing:
basic instructions [post=19356]here[/post]; replace Hog2PC_3-4-3-123.msi with Hog3PC-Win32-golden_3-1-5-2725.msi

i'd be quite curious to see the results - please do .zip or .pdf the resulting log and post it.



if:
you can manually install the VC Runtime
your logs confirm that the 3PC installer is otherwise functioning correctly
then:

as a very last resort, it is possible to configure the 3PC installer to skip the failing components:

extract to your desktop 2725-NoVcrMerge.mst from the attached .zip file, set up a command prompt using the above instructions, and use the command

Hmm, I have failed to get that hoglog file to appear anywhere. I've tried both 1 and I*xv. Both give me a new window. Should I keep that window open whilst I attempt to run the installer?

that's an L, as in log. if you right-click in the command window, you can paste directly into it. the log will appear on your desktop.

It would be the latter.
I did both in that order but only after applying the 2725-NoVcrMerge.mst transform to the 3PC installer did I see immediate success.
