can't get widget to install

What OS are you using?

If it is a 64-bit OS you will not be able to install the widget drivers.

no i hadn't actually, but i am installing 3.0.5 and the widget still isnt playing ball

tried following the instructions and still no joy sadly, just get the "welcome to the found new hardware wizard"

How old is you widget? It is Hog-3 capable or only Hog-2 capable?

You can tell by looking for the silver oval around the DMX port....if it is blue it might not be upgraded.
The surest way to tell is to run the widget upgrader utility and see if it shows up Red....if so you need to buy an upgrade.

its a hog 2 widget i believe, i originally installed hog2pc but it wouldn't work so i tried hog3pc to see if the drivers would at least work so i can use it with hog2pc, i will eventually upgrade it but i cannot afford it right now

Well then Hog3PC will not work at all.....you should remove it to prevent any issues for now. You can re-install it later.

Are you logged on as "Administrator" to you computer?

ok uninstalled now, am only user account which is admin

When you plug the widget in do you see any of the red LEDs light up on the back (they should all flash from top to bottom once and then you should see the "Link" at the bottom lit)

When you first connect a USB widget to a computer, it will try and load two different drivers. The first one will say something like "DMX Widget (loading)", followed by "DMX widget".

The drivers should install, and you should see it show up under "Flying Pig Systems devices in the Windows Device Manager (Start: Run:type in "devmgmt.msc", press enter) even if it's not upgrade to support Hog3 mode. (The device will show up, it just won't let you use it under Hog III).

I've heard of a number of problems using Widgets with Netbooks. Netbooks tend to have very tight power budgets, and frequently can't supply the amount of power they're supposed to be able to supply to the USB ports. You might try a Powered USB hub and see if that helps.

The LEDs on the widget won't turn on until you get the first driver installed.

When you plug in the widget, and get the "Found New Hardware" wizard, you should select:
1: Don't Search Windows Update
2: Install Driver Automatically.
It should then install and load the driver.

should i try a powered hub? or should i fresh instal xp sp2? the machine came with sp3 so a downgrade is imposible :(
