Site has been updated with the "Classic Hog 3" images.

There is also one Scott made up for those times that you want to make it idiot proof for someone to run. You'll have to adjust the key recording, but when you see it, you'll immediately know which one it is.

Sometime back Quinn provided some app that provided some controls that allowed the encoders to be used easier via a tablet pc. http://forums.highend.com/showpost.php?p=19782

I am wondering if it would be possible to use similar technology to create keyboard shortcuts to the encoders. If it worked you could then use those mapping in Snatch.

I have been using the stuff from Quinn for a while with VNC to use my iPhone and Hog3PC as a Hog III remote. With it though you have to move all around the screen to find what you are looking for.

Maybe if the technologies could be merged we could finally be happy with a decent remote.

There are now over 30 screens to choose from on the site.

The Palettes screens will require you to do your own keys and mappings as every user will want something different.

Isn't it fun to just walk around and trigger stuff. I usually have people get both Hog AND iPhone envy when I use it.

    Thanks for the kind words.

It was tough fighting the urge to wander around the stage for hours and switch lights on just for the sake of it!

Yeah, the rest of the crew are most impressed with it. Up until now I used a laptop wheeled around on a small trolley - that never attracted any admiring glances!

    Sorry Mike...just saw this.

There should be no need for any calibration that I know of. The only thing I can think of is that you need to make sure that Hog3PC is "fronted" on the computer. Otherwise, the computer just thinks you're typing. I always click on the front panel and make sure that the keyboard is in MAP mode before using the phone.

Let us know what you find...

Please excuse me for my ignorance on this topic, im very new to networking, never needed to do it before,

I may be barking up the wrong tree with the above solution to use ipod touch as a remote,

If i explain what im aiming to do maybe you could help me a little more.

I simply want to use my ipod touch to turn dimmer channels on whilst focussing, ill be using hog3 pc on my laptop so i need to setup the connection between the ipod touch and the laptop

Is this just a case of VNC to trigger the laptop from the phone??

Im having a nightmare trying to get vnc lite and real vnc to talk on windows 7 just keeps popping up error message saying host closed the session.

    Hope this makes sense

    Mike,

The App I built is using the Snatch server app as the backbone. There is a desktop server required, but looking at the site, it only lists XP and Vista. It might work with Windows 7, but as I'm a Mac user, I have no idea.

    http://www.hoofien.com/Snatch/downloads.html

For the iTouch itself, you need the Snatch app from the iTunes store. It's $3.99.
    http://www.itunes.com/apps/snatch

Now, the reason I went this route is that I was never able to get VNC Lite to connect properly. With Snatch, you launch the server on your 3PC machine in the background, connect the iTouch and you can use the screens that Scott and I came up with to use the keypad, choose buttons, etc.

With our screens and Snatch, I use it all the time to recall dimmer channels, LEDs, etc. It can do pretty much anything there is a keyboard shortcut for (ie NOT the encoder wheels). All of the buttons are already mapped and, as long as you make sure the laptop is in MAP mode, you'll be good to go.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the VNC lite as I was never able to get it to work properly either.

i managed to get the Snatch working and it was controlling the mouse on the desktop, but like i said, as soon as i opened the Hog pc and had the application fronted as you said it seemed to go non responsive

Very strange, i thought i may be going down the wrong route and that the snatch setup was to be used via a laptop when using a Hog 3 console, and the laptop in the network triggered the desk as opposed to the hog 3pc running on the laptop

Sorry if that doesnt all make sense

Unfortunately, I have not found a replacement program in App store that does what Snatch was able to do. If you find something, please let me know and I'll see what I can do with it.

So, if you don't already have Snatch, there isn't anything else I can do at the moment.

    Sorry.

I thought about making screens for the iPad as I have recently acquired one, however, the Snatch app (currently) is not iPad specific. All it is available for is the iPhone which means, when you run it on the iPad, it's just the 2x version. However, it does make it much nicer to have HUGE buttons. :)

As was posted above, they are working on new versions, maybe there will be an iPad version.

What screens would you like to see? I'd love to revisit them if there are things you feel are missing.

Let's hope that there will be an ipad version in the future for Snatch. The screens that you did are fantastic and I can't think of anything I need for the iphone version. For the ipad version you might think about combining screens. I will have to think about that a little more. I just got my ipad this week and still getting used to it.

I'm currently debating buying an ipad since my tablet pc died(yay warrenty credit instore), but had a thought for combining screens for an "Ipad Version". Since the Ipad simply takes ipod/iphone apps and makes them 2x bigger, why not simply make the buttons 2x smaller on the ipad skin. then they will be normal size and in theory should fit 2x the buttons.

That would work but with the screen real-estate of a ipad why not just use a vnc client and remote into a computer running hog3 pc. That is taking the assumption that u have a pc u could do that with.

The biggest difference is that with the snatch remote, the keystrokes are already programmed. I've found with VNC, sometimes you miss keys or it doesn't take.

just wondering, have you guys came up with any new screens??
Got it all to work tonight... I know i missed the bus on this a little but I'm with it now.

im glade im not the only person to find it cool to turn lights on and off from my phone.. ha ha

Has anyone had any luck making the encoder wheels work??
  • jxgriffijxgriffi Registered User, DL Beta, Hog Beta

    Snow,

Encoder wheels do not work because they aren't mapped to any keystrokes. They are completely dependent on click and hold. As there is no way to guarantee where the mouse started, I haven't come up with a fool proof way to use it.

As far as new screens...what are you looking for? Between Scott and I, we might be able to whip something up if there's something specific you're looking for.

Also, for those following the thread...Snatch is back in the App store. It's now Snatch PRO, but I'm not sure what the changes are. If anyone gets it, let us know if there is anything new that we need to worry about or if the screens don't work on it.

    MikeyRay,

Without the Pause/Break, there is no way to get the keyboard into MAP mode which is how all of this works.

You also might try looking at this thread as an alternative to using Snatch.
    http://forums.highend.com/showthread.php?t=11460

It uses OSC to send MidiNotes to consoles so you don't have to have a client logged into the system.
