RDM/talkback with Media Servers

I work extremely a lot with arkaos and the Roadhog. I think it is very advantageous if it is implemented. And all big consoles have it already, the MSEX Protokol. MA, Chamsys, Compulite, Maxxyz etc.

Why the Hog not???

Agreed Holti. It would require alot of talking with the manufacturers of servers, but it would become an invaluable tool.

Well now that we have a "Fixture Link" port on DP-8000 and RHFB.....I wouldn't be surprized to see things like CMA and ECHO being installed natively onto FPS consoles sometime in the future.

Now that would be cool! Just to add to the topic.. the system I am suggesting to implement does involve a GUI and is not just DMX related.

We already have item #9995 logged as an enhancement to add support for the CITP protocol (MSEX) to provide thumbnails on the consoles from media servers. There is no need for your poll.
Also FYI, this is accomplished through a native protocol MSEX designed for this purpose. It is very different from Art-Net or RDM. You can read more at: www.citp-protocol.org/

Thanks Brad. I read about it being used on dancing on ice with the vector blue and it said something about Art-Net and RDM.. That should prove interesting to read.

Transferring thumbnails is technically pretty easy between Hippo and Vector. Both use Windows and Windows file sharing works between them.
Though, thumbnails work in Vector I don't use them much (last three years my day job has been programming with Vector Red)
In working with media servers really groundbreaking would be fixture libraries with good abstraction. Especially when you change layer FX, you get correct parameter abstraction on parameters. I don't know any console which can do that.
It has been discussed and maybe even logged here some time ago.

Wow, I think there is only one Vector Red in the whole of the UK. I dont know how it would affect thumbnails because of the mix of Linux and XP though...

Just took a look back at this thread for the name of the protocal, and WOW it has managed to attract 1702 votes! There are just over 5200 members.. but only 300+ are active!

An interesting thing is Art-net in and out, I had a training on Pandora Box last two days, and media server was linked with a GrandMA via Art net and both were sending and receiving art-net, so we could preparing on desk and record it in Pandora time-line or do things in on media server, and record it in grandMA.

Art-net in would also be a great and useful option.

Is it also possible to get Hmap2 protocol added to this request please? I was working with Green Hippo a few days ago and a staff member noted to me that Hippo supports Bi-Direction DMX but NO other console manufacturers have added it yet. I would really like to see this as well as the other requests above added.

I do not see any information easily available about the Hmap2 protocol from Green Hippo. In fact, their website has no mention of it that I could find. I did find a cut sheet from another reseller that listed it as a feature, but with no details. I wonder what the protocol really offers...

I am sat with the latest product catologue that I picked up from thier training manager last week.

"HMap2 - Lighting Console Integration".

From what he told me it allows a user to alter something using the Hippo interface (ZooKeeper) and then record it into the console. Currently if you want to record something on the console, you have to do it from the console. HMap2 allows users to pick and choose which interface to use. This comes in handy when you want to alter something on your video output that you can only do via the server. For example, 9 chan colour is only avaliable on the server in order to keep DMX channels down.

So all in all you can program on the server and record your cues into the console. Currently, the most effective way (I have found) is to program on the server and put things into timelines which can be easily triggered from the console, either by DMX or Art-Net (YEY FULL BOAR!). :D

It proves very time saving with the way Hippo Net and Zookeeper works. Thanks.
