Fixture Selection from Touch Screen

I've often wondered if anyone has a tip for selecting fixtures from the touch screen on Wholehog OS.

I know other desks have a "fixture selection window" where you can toggle fixtures / channels on or off (open or close) via the touch screen.

In the past, what I've done is make single fixture groups for each fixture that I can then label with something useful like "DSL AMBER SHIN". But is there a better or more preferred way, as this is tedious?

Every year I have a standing design gig for a dance company, and given the shear amount of dance numbers coupled with the short amount of programming time, going to the magic sheet to pick out obscure channels isn't always useful (it's a BIG show). I'm not saying that every fixture has to be on the touch screen, but maybe the side lighting, specials, all the movers, and any LEDs I may have in the rig.

I welcome any and all thoughts.

If you open the fixture window you can select individual fixtures from there and put a descriptive label on them too.
The only problem with that though is because the small area each fixture takes up, selecting an individual fixture and esp. groups using the touchscreen is tedious to say the least

The fixture window is really for patching, so when I click on a particular fixture number and hit "@" on the keypad to assign an intensity level, the console thinks I'm patching and the DP patch window pops up.

I've always made sure that I had the fixture window closed when I started bringing up channels to avoid accidental patching. So are you saying there's another way to select fixtures via the touch screen or am I misunderstanding?

Sorry forgot about that, I was thinking about selecting individual fixtures from there without having to make oodles of group palettes.......
try it with guard on....... if it has guard
what console are you running? if its HOG3 you could select the fixtures and then use the I-wheel

I normally just make groups for all of my spots, and pick them in the group-window. Like group "sidelight blue195", or "TSP132MM" means top special color 132 mid-mid. Touch screen @ 40% enter......

Well, one thing you could do is change the fixture numbers. So, say, you want to bring up the shin kickers, and those are assigned to dimmers 101, 150. Instead, you renumber those as 501, 502 so that you can have a quick keypad reference. It definitely helps in the moving light world when you want to bring up your fixtures and you group them accordingly (placement on stage, type, etc).

Oh Right. I always use logical numbering when patching. For instance, acting areas 1-12 "warm" are fixture numbers 1-12 and "cool" are 21-22.

But I was just looking for a slick, visual method of selecting individual fixtures directly from the touch screen.
