(1949) Bug Report: Patching Command Line Doesn't Match Action

Have you tried [101] [THRU] [104] [+] [111] [THRU] [114][AT] (Select a universe) [ENTER]?

If I am not mistaken, we should have [THRU][THRU] to circumvent a break in user numbering,

[101] [THRU] [THRU] [AT] (Select a universe) [ENTER] will be the good command.

That all sounds right.

I was actually trying to emphasize that the syntax DOES work correctly but that the command line DOES NOT match what the console is actually patching.

In other words, the console is working, but the command line is wrong.

I just test with on hog III with my show i unpacth fix 51 thru 75 ( 51 thru 58 Mac 700 spot and 61 thru 75 mac 700 wash)
[51] [THRU] [75][AT] (Select a universe) [ENTER] is working with out trouble.

I very much appreciate your persistence on this.

I believe this is an issue specifically when you have two ranges of the exact same type of fixture next to each other.

In your example, if 51-54 were Mac 700 spots, 61-64 were Mac 700 spots, and there were no other fixtures between these two ranges, then you would have a situation where this problem could occur.

In this case, you could patch 51-54 to an output by typing:

[51] [THRU] [AT] [UNIVERSE] [START ID] [ENTER]

Notice that I did not close the range. This is automatically done by the console because of the gap in user numbering. (This is EXACTLY what should happen.)

However, the COMMAND LINE would read 'Mac 700 Spot 51 > Mac 700 Spot 64 Patch@ 1/1/1'

So, just to be clear, the console is patching exactly how I expect (and want) it to.

The only problem here is that the command line is not displaying the same range as what I have just patched.

The command line readout is the only thing that seems to have a problem here.

Ok, it's a display bug, I thought you could not patch with the command line.
My English is sometimes too superficial to appreciate some subtleties.

Hi Phil,

I believe I've seen this before - and not just in patching. I stumbled accross it because (from H2 days) I was used to the Fixture Thru syntax to select all my light of a certain type. Now of course if you break the User numbering it only selects up to the break - although the command line does show the entire selection.

So, as you've pointed out if I have 701-704, 711-714 (Continious in the Patch)

Then 701 Thru Enter will only select 701-704. But the command line will show 701-714. I havent tested this for a while; because of this behaviour I switched to using continuous fixture numbers.

Yeah. I actually like the way the Hog 3 handles this, and I tend to break up the numbering of my fixtures in such a way that this speeds up my fixture selection a little.

I don't know how difficult it would be, but it might be nice to have an option in Preferences that says something like:

"Ignore breaks in user numbers for fixture selection ranges"

Or maybe something less wordy, but hopefully you get the point.

Yes, I understand. I prefer the old H2 way, so Vive la difference!. To me, if you leave the selection open ended, it should select all of a type. Though I understand that having sets of numbers would help you only select the fixtures you need - so 711 Thru only selects Truss 1, wheras 701 Thru select FOH.

I remember this has been discussed a few times in older threads.
I really like the way Hog3 handles this. I also use numbering to specify areas and it's very handy to select areas this way.
