I have an X-spot that refuses to strike. I tried swapping the lamps, the lamp powersupply and the ignitor along with the relay. I swapped all of the parts between two x-spots and the other one fired up just fine with the first ones parts and the first one still wouldnt fire up. I checked the lamp safety switch, it was all good, i also ran a continuity test of the wire loom that goes to the safety switch, and a contiunity test of the wires from the ignitor to the lamp ceramic. Tim, Does the fixture make any noise when you try to strike it? My most common problem with Xspots is Lamp bases, although it is usually pretty obvious, they make a loud snapping noise when it tries to strike. If you look at the back of the lamp base, you will see the wires there have lost their insulation, and the wires are arcing to the mounting plate.
Otherwise, you are on the right course. It sounds like a lamp enable problem, but if you have swapped everything... Did you swap the interlock relay when you swapped everything else? I would try bypassing the relay and see if that solves the problem, and work backwards from there.
It makes the same striking noise like they normally do. I did swap the relay's when i swapped the ignitor. I'm just running out of things to check. I even swapped the 3 phase pan board thinking it was being weird, but still no change. :mad:
Very unlikely, but perhaps the cpu board, or it must be a wiring problem, as tedious as that might be... I did have an xspot once that had a loose pin in one of the 9 pin connectors that went from the head to the arm, and it would push back when It was plugged in, causing the lamp not to get enabled...
I would bypass the relay and see if it strikes, that will tell you alot. Just pull the wires from the input side of the Relay and plug them directly into the ignitor card.
If my memory is correct, Puffy and I ran in to one that was having the same issues as yours, and we ran it down to the lamp wire assembly. Never found the reason why, but I was thinking the wire was broken somewhere from the ing card! But thats my .02 cents.
I now have two doing it!!! Highend told me some tricks but still no go. In one i found a loose lamp wire, but still no worky. Now the fixtures are beginning to get parted out for now.
Damn line filter can cause a no fire also. Bypass it. Also tap in a new lampholder with wire, see if it strikes. If so the wire was shorting to ground somewhere. Thread the wire thru the frame and attach the new lamp holder.
I was seeing 400V across the black and white wires on the relay right before the ignitor, so i know the lamp power supply is working. Also, highend told me how to make the lamp power supplies force fire, bypassing all electronics, i wish i knew this trick a long time ago.
I had similar issues lamps went off. we realized that the lamp safety switch was the problem, even it showed closed with fluke meter. the resistance can be sometimes slightly to high for electronic to recongnize. if you open/close a couple of times it works again for some time. I have sent a patch of switches to development dep. and this was agreed to be the fault by Mike Wood. I cant remember if or how this was ever solved. after bypassing the switches there was never ever a fault again, but please dont tell anyone:). good luck Robert
