Hog 3 Fatal Crash when adding fixtures (1809)

I was starting to prepare for our Christmas show. I created a new show and tried merging in our existing "house plot" show. When I tried to add fixtures, I got a fatal error. Thinking it was an error with the merge, I tried it again and got the same fatal error.

I then went back to my original show and just tried to add fixtures to it (without creating a new show) and got the same fatal error. Thinking I was having an issue, I did a full ISO of the desk and loaded a show that was backed up this morning before attempting all of these mergers/new shows.

Show loaded fine and I tried to add fixtures...got the SAME fatal error.

I can load a new show just fine, but if I try to add VL1000's to an existing show, I get the fatal error.

Cool Jon. We'll take a look. Was it just the VL1000's or did you have trouble with just adding any fixtures?

That was always the first fixture I tried to add...so I didn't try with any others.

Chris,

I just tried again on Hog3PC. I tried adding VL2500's instead of VL1000's. Here is a screenshot of the error. Same results...

Hey Jon, something definitely went wrong with this show as it seems like adding certain fixtures to the patch is problematic. I am able to add some fixtures but most are giving me trouble. Any idea what version this show was created with? Original library version?

Well...considering this "show" has been around for a long time, I would ponder that it was library 3.0 maybe...it's been through so many upgrades, it's hard to say.

Since it's our regular weekly setup, it just gets updated and rearranged depending on what is going on. I am currently trying to go through palette by palette, cue by cue and recreate it as a whole new show, but it's a LONG process since there's so much information in there.

Any ideas?

My guess is that the desk is not happy about the older library. It might be a compatability issue between new software/old library since our fx rate feature in 2.2.2 required a library update. If that theory is correct then we should be able to load the show in a previous version of software and add the fixtures there. If not, then my guess would be show file corruption.

I would guess the same...this all started happening once I tried to update to 2.2.2. Before that, I was able to add fixtures without any issues.

I guess it's time to recreate everything with 2.2.2 and start fresh. :friday:

That's what I had done when these issues started creeping up. Old show...merged into 2.2.2 and this is the result.

I can give it another shot and see what I can come up with...maybe the second time won't have an issue.

I just realized why I couldn't do this...it gives me the error of "library must be of same revision" to merge...that's why I had to try and create a new show and merge all of my existing information into it.

So that tells me the current showfile is dead if I want the new features without recreating everything. Is this true?

Jon,

Any features that are dependent on the show library, such as changes to wheelsets or additional fixture functions, would need to be merged into your show. Occasionally, we make significant changes to the show library that make merging impossiible. When this happens, we change the major revision number of the library. If your show was created using a library earlier than v4.0 (about 2 years ago), there won't be a way to merge the newest features in. The only change that's been made recently that you'd be missing is for cuelist effects rate control. We're still able to build v3 fixture libraries, so if you need access to any of the new features you can just send a request to support@flyingpig.com

Like I mentioned to Chris, since I'm coming up on Christmas and having to add fixtures, I have gone ahead and started building a "brand new" show with the current library. I load my current show on Hog3PC with the new show on the console and have been replicating everything one by one.

I didn't want to risk having all of this happen right before Christmas and finding out I can't load fixtures into my current show and have to rush it.
