If I am reading correctly, you want to do an Intensity chase from ctr out to the edges.

If so, you should be able to either build a chase that does it or you should be able to do it with the effects engine.

For Effects Engine, you should be able to select Fixture 1-9 and select your intensity effect. Once the effect is the proper rate and size, you should be able to hold "FAN" and select "Center" on the tool bar. Adjust your offset and you should get what you want.

I don't have a console in front of me, but this should get you close to what you want I believe.

Gotcha, (light over my head finally went on) INT for Intensity Effect.

I just tried both ways on my office HogPC setup (no wings).

Both took about the same amout of time to program, but the method using the Effects engine could easily give someone a hard time if you're not familiar with using the engine. I did a STEP effect with Intensity at 50%. Also, when you FAN Center the direction you go with the Effects Offset determines whether you chase outward or inward.

Therefore, if I were to do this using the Cuelist Chase method was much more straightforward, and I feel it would be easier to edit later for speed, direction, and possibly timing.

I agree...for something like this, I would build a specific chase...

If you want all lights at FL and a set of lights to drop to 50%....

VL 1 through 9 at Full - Record 1 thru 5 (this records 5 cues with the lamps at full).

Then, VL5 @ 50 - merge 1
VL 4 + 6 at 50 - merge 2
etc. down the line.

Then under cue options, choose the "Chase" function and that will allow the "Tap Sync" to be used.

If you wanted all lamps at 50% and the appropriate lamp to bump full, do the same thing but record 1-5 with all lamps at 50% and merge 1 the full lamp.

This will still allow all of the editing of fades, delays, etc. that give you more control since it's a chase.

What you say it's true, but then the efx look with 1 fixture every time or if you using the "gruping" option its look like 2 x 2 or 3 x 3 etc...

What im looking for is an effect that will do:

fixture 1 open > fixture 2 + 3 open > fixture 4 + 5 > ...

The effect shuled start with 1 fixture open then a jump's of 2.

Thets not possible on the Hog 3 with a easy way, the only way that i can think of it is to do an Int effect on all fixture, set the rate and then take all the fixure except fixture nomber 1, set the gruping to "2" and set the offset to 330 (then you get 2 x 2 ), now take fixture 1 and set the offset by your eye to the start place....well...that a "easy" way.

I didn't realize you wanted the lights to stay on as they moved through the effect. In that case, to me at least, it sounds like building the chase would be the quickest way to do what you want. That way you can deal with timings and fading exactly as you want.

Seems to be it would be quicker than dealing with the effects engine, multiple steps, groupings....build the chase and then you can replicate it in different ways (up, down, bounce, random) without having to recreate it.

I agree with Jon. A cuelist setup as a chase would work nicely for what you want.

Based on your original chart...

Cue 1 programmed for Fixture 5 open and all others closed
Cue 2 programmed for Fixtures 4+6 open and 5 closed
Cue 3 programmed for Fixtures 3+7 open and 4+6 closed
Cue 4 programmed for Fixtures 2+8 open and 3+7 closed
Cue 5 programmed for Fixtures 1+9 open and 2+8 closed

Go to Cuelist Options and set the cuelist as a chase.

The speed can be set a number of ways.

Well...ye, Chase its the best way to do that but i really think that a console like this can do better then that.

Well in all honesty, I program my own chases probably 85% of the time instead of the Effects Engine. I like to be able to control every necessary parameter. If I'm in a hurry, yes, I'll use the Effects Engine...but if I have the time, I program the complete steps that I need.

I personally feel that the Effects Engine is nice and a very valuable tool...but it doesn't replace being able to do build your own whenever it is warranted. For me, this goes back to running consoles without effects engines and having to control everything and plan accordingly.

Just my thoughts....I know some people feel very differently and that the Effects Engine should be the end-all/do-all.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly...but here's suggestion.

Fixture 1>9 @ 0%
Intensity FX Mark On, Size 100% Length 25% (I think this works also with Step and other waveforms)
Fixture 1>5 offset 0>270 and 5>9 270>0

I agree with Jon to but you can't record a chase in a Cuelist and start playing with macros it's to much job for a smple thing like this so the efx sound like the best way for that, acually i like the way that Sami offer, thank Sami i will give it a try.

Amir, sometimes playing with FX length can give good results. I personally don't like chases and I'm one of those persons who think FX engine should do all. Mainly cause I feel cuelists are more compact that way when you have lot of things happening. Though, I understand for many people it's more clear to use chases.
There is much to improve in FX engine and there's a few threads about it. I hope in the near future more features will be added.
