Studio Spot 250 Lamp Strike Issue

Software?
DMX? are all other functions controlable?
I had it on the Studio Spot 575. No DMX (Connector was worn) it went into automatic shutdown after few minutes.

Sounds like a power/ballast issue to me, but definitely check your fans first

Are you getting any error messages on the display?

The fans are working fine and the DMX functionality works for every other aspect (pan, tilt, etc.).

I am just getting LITE OUT error message on the display screen once the lamp goes out.

I have been doctoring several sick Mac2ks this week, so haven't really had a chance to do more in depth exploration into my Studio Spot (its kind of a pain to get to, on a platform on top of a 45ft tower)

I am not sure if the firmware has been updated, but that is definatly one thing I will look into next.

Any other suggestions are very appreciated... I could just be missing something obvious and need it smacked in my face :)

I will keep testing and try and diagnose a bit more. This instrument is not crucial to the instillation, so this is definatly a back burner project of mine.

A LITE OUT error means that the lamp has gone out unexpectedly for some reason. In other words, the software didn't tell it to turn the lamp off and it is as confused as we are that it went out.

It could be any number of things honestly. SCR's getting old, lamp itself, ignitor, ballast, lamp socket.

Give our Support Dept a call here and they can probably point you to the most likely things to check next or give odds on what they think may have failed based on past experience.

Just one more additional observation.

When it homes at the start of its cycle, the head is facing at a downward angle. This is when the lamp strikes. Next it rotates around so that the head is facing directly up. ABout halfway through this rotation, the lamp always goes out.

Not sure if that helps with any diagnosis, but there you have it.

I also swapped ignitors with a known good one but to no avail, the same errors still occured.

Well if the lamp strikes initially, then it isn't the igniter that's bad.

To me it sounds like most probably your ballast, since this is what takes over power to your lamp after the igniter fires it.

It could also possibly be your PSB.

If it always goes out at exactly the same point during homing right after striking my bet would be that the lamp sense circuit is damaged on the logic board.

I'd check R86 first. Then U12 and D4 and D11.

You can quickly determine if it is the logic board or not by swapping board with another fixture to see if the problem moves.

Well, after even more diagnosing. Swapped out logic boards. No. Swapped out ballast. No.

However, in playing with it in manual mode, something interesting was discovered.

I can strike my lamp and tilt back and forth all day long. However, if I pan a little, POOF. No lamp.

Any more suggestions?

If moving Pan causes the lamp to go out then it sounds like a wiring harness issue.

Bad lamp wires. Easy fix.
