trackspot lamp problem

Here are a few things to look at:

1) Check the voltage setting on the back of the Trackspots.
2) Make sure that the fixture is getting proper air flow. Check the vents, check the fan, and make sure that the ambient temperature around the units isn't excessive.

If these all seem OK, I would get in touch with support. They can help you determine if you have a power supply problem or other hardware issue.

Hey Tom,
One more thing, I don't remember but if you touch one of those lamps with your fingers, will it cause it to fail more quickly??

I'm quite sure the lighting technician didn't touch the lamps with his fingers. This would be the least mistake made by any technician out there.
However, as Tom mention I think it might be the voltage setting. I'll give it a check tomorrow. I'm not good with technical at all

I would assume that the Trackspot lamp is less susceptible to problems from handling than higher wattage arc lamps, but I would still handle all lamps with care, avoiding touching them if possible and wiping off any human grease with an alcohol wipe if you touch them accidentally.

Lamps generate the most heat inside a lighting fixture. Fixtures are designed to radiate this heat outside of the fixture using heat sinks and fans because both lamps and electrical components are more likely to fail at extremely high temperatures. A number of things can reduce a fixture's ability to cool itself, including malfunctioning fans, blocked vents, excessive dirt and dust in the fixture, or operating the fixture in an environment that already has a high temperature. Check to see if any of these seem to be the case. If you have some Trackspots that are working normally and others that are not, see if the problem units feel as if they are hotter than the others.

Hello, you may also try putting Personality Dip Dwitches 1 and 2 in the ON position. This is Lamp Save mode and I have seen this help in installations with less than perfect power. It will reduce the lamp output a little bit but may save you from changing lamps so often.

I can only think of one thing missing from the think tank, vibration.
Vibration can shorten the lamp life to almost nothing. Sublow frequencys in stages, walls, even in pipe can drive you nuts until you find it. :aargh4:
Seen it. The filaments seperate cleanly in half. No smoke in lamp.

Good one Chris!:) A loose socket can give you a bad day. Add the audio shake and its lights out. They might be cracked or have carbon build up on em. The connection needs to be clean and tight. As long as your looking in that direction check the fan. Make sure it spins without touching the sides. Most need cleaning. A nice stiff brush and some air will do it.
(dont blow air thru the fan without blocking the blades so they wont spin)
If you have gunk build up on the sides remove the two screw holdin in the fan and remove it. A little scrubbing bubbles and the goo will let loose.
Re-insert the fan (proper side up!) plug back on the board and your good to go.:D

i'm on board with chris. lamp socket assemblies that lose their integrity are symptomatic of premature lamp failure and should be replaced. a repair of the lamp socket assemby might work for the short term, but to insure reliability, replacement is best. trackspot lamp socket assmblies are available and inexpensive.
