How do you add a position palette to an existing efx cue. I tried to merge a position but it overwrote my pan tilt effect. I used merge record and the original cue had efx info only.
I encountered the same problem. With an existing tilt effect, applying any position palette brings the fixture to a halt the location of the palette. Why is that so? I always assumed the palette will just be a base value for the effect to continue running on.
With the cue running, select the fixtures and then the position palette. If you merge this into the cue it will replace all the position information and turn off the effect. If you update instead then it will simply replace the base position and the effect will remain with the new base.
When you recorded the position palette I bet you recorded the Effects 'OFF' in the palette. By default we turn the Effects off and put an 'off' value in the Effects Engine. Open your palette and the Effects Engine and in the effects engine set the table to track. This should put your lights into the new position and keep the FX running.
There are a few ways to to only merge in position palettes or hard values into an existing effect without stomping the effect.. The easiest and most straight foreword for me, is to set your base position with hard values or a pos palette in the programmer and then merge into an existing FX cue by ONLY masking Pos with FX not selected in the mask. If you do accidentally mask in FX and Pos then you will stomp the effect and only save the position values for playback.
