Upgrade Inquiry

Hi everyone,

Good evening.

I'm newly registered here and I would like to seek help and assistance regarding Hog 4. Currently, our company is using the old Hog 2 and it is already discontinued in the market thus no available support anymore. I'm planning to request for additional lighting fixtures for our theatre (LED Wash / moving heads) to upgrade our lighting system but having only Hog 2, we will not be able to patch any new units into our board and with this I'm also requesting for an upgrade to our Hog 2 to Hog 4.

With this, I would like to know if we are still able to use our existing hardware such as the Jands DD6-2 DMX Input Controller, programmer and playback wings? What are the requirements for the upgrade? Will it affect our existing show lighting programs or can we still use it?

I'm not well versed with the lights and not so familiar with Hog board (I only used Avolites board before).

Any help and assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Highend/Barco has actually been pretty good about legacy hardware support. I'm not sure about your DMX controller, but I can say that your program and Playback and program wings will work, but there will be some disadvantages. (Like the buttons will map out differently than they did in hog 2)

The prgrammer and playback wing buttons had always be the same like on HOG 3 and now HOG 4
All labels fit to the function.
Only if you go then to a real HOG 4 console you will find 2 buttons in other positions.
If you run HOG 4 PC in Nano Mode and connect your wings it will all work fine.
Jands DD6-2 DMX Input Controller is just a standard DMX Splitter. All DMX devices will work with HOG4 like they did with Hog 2
You wont be able to use the HOG 2 expansion wing, but all USB connected hardware like programmer-wings, DMX widgets etc will work (DMX widgets might need upgrade)

Hog2 DMX widgets will defiantly need upgraded and last time I checked it was a pretty penny.

And the playback wings added another row of buttons and changed the functionality of the pause or "halt" key

Widgets: there are widgets out there that might work and others that will need the upgrade... That depends on the date when they had been bought

You are right that there is now the back button.
But the old wings can be used exactly like they had been used before.
What the pause/halt key does depends on your settings.... You can even tell it to be play button... So no changes... It is just how you configure your console.

Have to agree with what Sami says...
I never had any problems as the software recognize what kind of hardware is attached and maps the keys according to it.

Where do you get problems Michael?
