DL2 exploded

Hello We encounter a new problem After one year of operation of a DL2 in a basement museum
we just change the lamp 4 times and 2 times DL2 in a month

we use the cut for the extinction of DMX DL2 and return to service
temperature in this room 12°, 90% of humidity
DL2 is in AIr Dome

We do not find solutions can you help

Kind regards
  • Have you had a lamp actually explode in the projector?
If so there is a good chance that there is debris inside still (like a small piece of broken glass) that might be getting caught in one of the projector's fans.
If this is the case you should either swap the actual projector out (LX50 or LX55 depending on your unit) to have the problematic one serviced professionally, or swap the whole DL.2 unit out for the same reasons.

Overall, to me it sounds like an airflow problem.
What type of "air dome" is the unit mounted in?
You may have temperature and/or airflow issues if there is not enough airflow getting to the unit.
You may want to see what the average and peak operating temperatures are inside the "dome".
90% humidity is not great for any piece of mechanical and/or electronic equipment either.
Is the "dome" equipped with anything to filter out humidity?

    Hope this helps. :)

    Thank's for your ansewer
It was that we thinked at the first time
So we have changed the fixture and put it without Airdom
    The problem is the same

The first fixture had never problem since one year and sudenly the lamp exlpoded, with the old fixture and with a new replace...

The lamps exploded after 2 week used, 10 hours per day

    We don't understand
  • Stef,

Are the projectors in the DL2s LX50s or LX55s?

Were the projectors thoroughly cleaned after the lamp exploded to make sure no glass is still in the projector? Are all of the cooling fans functioning?

Where are you sourcing lamps from? If you are not buying brand name lamps (Ushio lamps for LX50, Osram for LX55) this can cause problems. We have seen lots of problems with off-brand lamps.

    Best regards,
