Running DP8000 from network switch?

if you use artnet your setup is no problem.

I am trying to get 8 universes of DMX to each house left and house right...

you want the same 8 universes on both sides or different universes?

using artnet both is possible just connect as many artnet nodes to switch.
they can send the same or different universes.

You can run multiple DPs from a switch. Generally, we recommend that you use separate switches for Art-Net and Hog-Net in a system that uses both.

Beyond that, I'm a little unclear on what you're trying to do. Could you perhaps post a sketch or drawing of your layout, what what kind of signals (DMX, Art-Net, etc.) you need where?

If you try to get 8 universes on each side of your stage with DP8000 your setup should look like this.

RHFB HOG-Net Output -> Switch (Gigabit) -> 2 Cables to SL & SR -> DP8000 on SL, DP8000 on SR
I would give the DP8000 different Netnumbers (Internal Console DP #1, SL #2 SR #3)
If you need the same lines on SL/SR i would clone the DP in the patch

No. You must use a Hog-3 based console with HogNet capabilities or Hog3PC to send ArtNet from a DP-8000.

FYI - DP-8000s are capable of 16 Universes of ArtNet.

The old DP-2000s can be used in ArtNet mode to receive ArtNet from any console and make 4 Universes into DMX 5-pin.

Okay, so let me spell this out since I have both a DP2k and a DP8k
I can take a random console and sent artnet to either the DP2k or the DP8k and then get the dmx from them 4 or 8u depending... but cannot send artnet on down the line without using a Hognet type console/software?
Reason I ask, we are testing some new gear and wondered if we can just leave our existing networks in place and just plug in the test consoles. That would make my life so much easier.

Not quite.

You can take any console and send ArtNet to a DP-2000 in ArtNet mode for (x4) 5-pin DMX universes.

A DP-8000 only runs on HogNet to communicate with consoles, but has an additional network adapter/port to allow ArtNet output (up to 16 universes).
