What are your thoughts.. on shows lasting many days, is re-booting the console a good idea? would powering down and back up once a day help anything with reliability or should I just keep the console on for days at a time?
With any computer system powering down periodically is a good idea. Once a day is usually sufficient for consoles. Depends a bit on how intensely you are using the system as well. I typically shut-down and re-start my system after long programming sessions prior to show playback.
If it helps, I run an iPC almost constantly in my venue, usually shutting it down overnight once a week (or twice if it's lucky) as it needs to fire cues at almost any time of the day. It's over 5 (maybe even 6) years old and we've had no problems yet!
Of course, rebooting daily (at least) is a good idea but fortunately it doesn't seem necessary.
