Studio Beam color wheel

I have a studio beam with a yellow wheel that sticks and loses its positioning. Ive replaced that motor and the wheel seems to be turning freely but it still gets out of position. The fixture will home properly so I don't think it's a sensor.

Where do I go from here?

Thanks for the help, I'm sure this has been answered in the forums before but i was not able to find anything.

Thanks
Aaron
  • If I remember correctly, the shaft for that motor passes through one of the plates. When the fixture heats up the shaft can expand and get stuck in the hole in the plate. If you drill out the hole slightly it will no longer stick.

This was particularly prevalent in older units. It also tends to show up more in floor fixtures since the heat goes up into the head more than if hung on a truss. By keeping the shutter open as much as possible as well as tipping the unit lens down and back-end up helps with the heat issue when on the floor.

    Hope this helps. :)
