I noticed I can use my USB thumb drive with an axon server to put content on and remove from an Axon server. Does this mean I can use a USB 2.0 External Hard Drive with an Axon? Also, should I be cautious when I unplug my thumb drive/hard drive because there is no way to "eject" or "stop" the drive? Thanks!

No, only the main drive can be used as the content drive in Axon. You can use USB drives to pull content on and off the Axon drive, but it won't use the external drive for playing back content....and you wouldn't want it to either! The performance impact would be too great.

Andrew,
Yes, it is possible to use a USB 2.0 hard drive, but because careful about powered vs. non-powered drives. I have a IOMEGA 2.5" 40GB USB hard drive that works with or without power, but I have seen other drives that will not work without power applied to them.
As far as ejecting drives, it is possible to do this as well. When browsing the "Local Drives" folder on the Axon, if you right click any where in the main pane of the CMA (the large pane on the right) there should be an option to eject all USB drives.

Wasn't planning on using it as a playback device, just as storage/transfer. Thanks!

Does anyone have a list of Drives that do work with Axon media servers?

Justin,
Any run-of-the-mill USB hard drive or flash drive should work. I've had a myriad of them plugged into my Axons here in my cave and haven't ever found one that won't work. As I said above, just becareful about external vs. bus powered drives. Sometimes the bus powered drives won't work, or if they do, they won't run at full speed.
Hope this helps.

I have a Lacie Hard drive but Axon will not recognize it. Is it possible that it could be formated wrong. (a.k.a formated for a mac?)

That's most likely the issue. Mac formatted drives won't show up on PC operating systems, and since Axon runs on Windows XP embedded, that's probably the root of the issue.

In order for it to show up under a windows environment, it has to be formatted FAT32, not Mac or Mac Journaled.
That's how all of my drives are formatted in order to go back and forth between systems....MBP for content creation and PC for Axon/DL2-3.
